Judge Fred t. Crifasi

The Honorable Fred T. Crifasi was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on October 22, 1964. He graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1982 and continued his studies at Louisiana State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1986. Judge Crifasi attended law school at LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center earning his Juris Doctorate in 1992.
Judge Crifasi has been on the bench at the 19th Judicial District Court since May 1, 2018. He has a criminal docket. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Crifasi maintained a private practice for over twenty five years. He was President of the Baton Rouge Bar Association in 2010 after serving as Chairman of its Young Lawyer’s Section in 1997. He is a 2004 recipient of the Louisiana State Bar Association Pro-Bono Publique Award.
Judge Crifasi currently presides over the Reentry Court Program which provides eligible defendants the ability to complete the Louisiana Workforce and Labor Development Program as part of their sentence. During this two year custodial program defendants receive training and certification in a trade; life-skill mentoring; as well as counseling and education support. If successful, the defendant is allowed to petition to re-enter society and, if accepted, do so with employment secured, transition plan established and under intensive supervision.
