Certain civil matters are handled by the Civil Judge on duty. Each Civil Judge serves a two week duty period. (See the link below for the Civil Duty Schedule.) The Civil Duty Court Office handles all matters assigned to the Civil Duty Judge.
What matters are handled by the Civil Duty Court Office?
According to Local Rule 3.2, the Civil Duty Judge shall handle all:
All of these matters must be routed through and approved by the Civil Duty Court Office. Please do not bring duty matter pleadings directly to the Duty Judge.
ALL DUTY CASES ARE TRACKED BY CASE NUMBER. ALWAYS HAVE THIS NUMBER WHEN CALLING OR FAXING THE CIVIL DUTY COURT OFFICE.
OPEN COURT PROCEDURES:
Any settlement of personal injury or other claim on behalf of a minor is scheduled through the Civil Duty Judge’s Office, not the Civil Duty Court Office. All parties must be present for the conference.
Duty matters requiring a Judge’s signature may be filed with the Clerk of Court and walked to the Civil Duty Court Office in Room 2401. A hold box is located in the wall on the outside of the Duty Court Office. Duty papers can be left for signature on the top shelf of the hold box.
